About Heidi Lewis

Heidi Lewis They say the state of Maine has good lobsters - and Heidi says that they're right!  Having grown up in Portland, Maine, Heidi Lewis developed a taste for seafood early on in life.  She loves long walks on the beach, and cooking.

If you try to avoid computers like the plague, it's okay.  If you don't know the first thing about computers and think that a mouse pad is where the little vermin hang out, that's okay too.  But do you want to learn about computers?  It's really not that difficult, and you may find that computers are not all that bad and really very easy to use.

Computers make life so much easier with everything that is now just a keyboard click away.  You can book travel arrangements, shop for hard to find items, look up anything of interest, apply for loans, play games, correspond with friends and family via email, and of course, you can learn about computers online.  This may intimidate you a bit, but if you know how to open a browser and enter search criteria, then you are on your way.

There are lots of ways to learn about computers.  Many local community colleges and some libraries offer classes at various levels to people who want to learn about computers, from the basics to more advanced applications.  There are also many books to choose from on the subject, and can be checked out for free at the library or purchased at any local or online bookstore.  Learn about computers with a “Dummy” book for basic computer information or for specific programs and applications.  Another option is to learn about computers via online tutorials and informational websites.

A good site for new computer users to visit is www.externalharddrive.com, which provides good basic information about computers and the internet, and answers to the most commonly asked questions.  Sites featuring computer basics for kids are www.kids-online.net, and www.homeworkspot.com, which incorporates games and skill building exercises in a number of academic areas.

Kids and adults alike can learn about computers in no time!  Kids pick it up really quickly and adults can do the same, but they may be a little more intimidated at first.  It's just amazing all the things we can do with a computer and the internet.  Just fifteen years ago the World Wide Web was a far off dream, and now it's a way of life for many.  Computers are smaller and more affordable than ever and are a common fixture in many homes, just like televisions and microwave ovens.  We all use computers everyday, like when we make a phone call and get directed to an automated menu.  Soon even the minutest actions will be related to the use of a computer.  What are you waiting for?  Learn about computers!
